  • Reflections on exactly how narcissistic (or how rich) you need to be before you erect a statue of yourself riding a giant golden tortoise

  1. It looks like it might be “Searching for Utopia” by the Belgian artist, Jan Fabre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Fabre) or a replica of the work. The piece was installed at Seafront in Nieuwport, Belgium has made it’s rounds, also being shown in Amsterdam in 2011. The man riding the turtle is a self portrait of Fabre.

    • Thanks Dylan – you win the prize. The odd thing is that it is on private property. Unless it is a replica, it’s strange that what was once a publicly displayed piece of art is now behind a high wall.
